Ice roads

Texting with Bob last night and he says couple hours plowing  today and roads will be cleaned up from the last snow fall.

Ice thickness

This block of ice was cut out between Strawberry Portage and  Queer Island

Bigstone Bay just froze, there is 3” ice around the South side Queer Island.

Manitou Froze

Rec’d a call from a friend who says from his view of the Manitou looking to the East from the Welcome Channel /Holmstron Marsh area she has froze over

Yesterday Bob went by ice boat from town to Windigo says open water from town to French Portage but from French Portage to Windigo was ice. Didn’t say how thick ?

So Laurenson lake froze on November 08 , yesterday the 13 th 2 guys walked out onto lake ice fishing! A little too early !!

Last boat trip down Lake today, time to take boat out. Welcome channel has more ice than open water

Bays freezing, French Portage and South of French Portage is frozen

Laurenson Lake started to freeze over  November 07 and totally froze solid morning of 08 th.
Holmstrom Marsh has ice extending out 100 feet from shore..
L.O.W. Usually freezes 2 weeks after Laurenson.
They have slowed the out flow at the Dam to ease flooding on River system.

The bridge to Coney Island goes in on November 07 th

Rec’d a phone call today from a friend who docks at The Rockeries and he pushed ice to ramp to take his boat out.

Made it to BarePoint, pushed a little ice Finches Point through Rocky Narrows , 5 hrs later that ice was gone. Bigstone still ice covered but moving

Unconfirmed but heard Coney Island bridge coming out either today or Monday ?? Also heard you can boat from town through Keewatin channel and should be able to reach Scotty Island Beach either by today or tomorrow, BTW our ground is white again this morning, second time this week.

Last year when this happened we made Bare Point in 9 days (May 09) This Year our temperatures are same as 2016- ice still forms overnight. We made Bare Point in 16 days. The latest I expect to hit marina this year will be May 05

Sent from my iPhoneWhat happened to those Jets ?? Yesterday I made a run to town by sled-definitely the last one !! Could troll down edge snow banks. If sled ever quit have hard time getting ashore. The night before overnight low was +6 and we hit 15 yesterday so it's done a lot damage to ice. Looking back in diaries and found another thing, when we can canoe from our place to East Allie it's 9-19 days to get to marina, took this picture yesterday afternoon not much ice left . Ice on Laurenson lake did not look good either. Even though we don't have last year's warmer temperatures ice is still melting, it's not as good quality ice as last year.
Once we open up I'll send you a note you can post with a new boating prediction date

Not a lot new ,Greg Smith and I went to town by Quad on Tuesday,was -8 sunny in morning very good travelling. But on way home by 2 pm the snowbanks softened enough would not support quad and water underneath is 16" deep. The ice road into Dorian has several large holes on one side and other side has double ice, only way around is to jump the snow bank. I was stuck in snow bank at Dorian and Greg was stuck in bank at Queer. A contractor working at Red Deer Isand came by on a sled and I used him as anchor and winched myself out. Greg managed to get himself unstuck. The ice south side of FN Portage is also full holes. Not safe for quad travel anymore. Still okay to run snowmobile.
Strawberry Portage has deep water and holes on North side, people are driving vehicles up to Strawberry and unloading snowmobile from there. Still too much snow on Island to drive quad around paths. There is a flock of 100 geese on the grass/open water French Narrows,quite the noise when a snowmobile goes by and they take flight. Also saw 2 robins in back yard. Sea gulls are back,they say once they arrive there is still 3 more snowfalls, Warroad just said 3" tonight. And long range has more snow, with no double digits in forecast

We still cannot post on blog. Checking Diary and we are warmer than this time last year. Last year I took truck off April 10 but had her back on ice April 18.Last year's first double digit day was April 17, the 14 day long range does not have a double digit in it. Last year we boated to Marina May 09 , unless things change fast expecting same this May
